GoldED is a full-featured mail/news reader for Fidonet and
Internet. It is highly configurable, using plain text files. It
supports a wide variety of messagebase formats, including JAM, Squish,
*.MSG, Hudson, Goldbase, PCBoard, WildCat! and AdeptXBBS. GoldED is
available for many platforms: DOS, DOS 32-bit, OS/2, Win32 and Linux.
Currently GoldED runs only as textmode, but GUI versions are also
planned.
The offical source release is currently at version 3.0.1 . The source code for
3.0.x and the in-development 4.x is released under the GPL and LGPL
licenses.
Official binaries compiled by myself are available from this
homepage. In between my official binary releases, co-developer Dirk A.
Mueller releases his -damX series here on a
regular basis. These releases can be treated as official bugfix
releases. They are usually just as good, or bad, as my own ;-)
There are some notes about the source is here, and you can read some bits of history and personal notes here.
You can find other GoldED files and third-party releated files
here.

GoldED 4.0 - The Next Generation
The next generation of GoldED is (or rather WAS) under development. Version 4.0
includes major rewrites of almost all parts of the program. Some
planned highlights:
Totally rewritten message handling. Much faster and handles large
messages with ease. Supports Unix mailboxes and news spools
directly.
Complete offline and online internet mail and news reader
capabilities, including full MIME support and attachments. Supports
very flexible killfiles.
Advanced search capabilities, using regular expressions,
wildcards, fuzzy search and plain text search in combination with
logic expressions.
New configuration reader with increased flexibility and new
rule-based area grouping system.
Menued configuration.
Rule-based automatic actions a'la killfiles.
Addressbook.
GUI.
There is uncompleted and non-compilable source for GoldED 4.x in the
source package. The state of that code is that is has basically not been
touched in about a year. There is some good development in it and
it really deserves to get revived. It would, however, take a pretty major
effort to get it running again. It is also lagging a bit behind
in features that where added later in 3.0.x but not in the 4.x source.
